Gujarat Board planning to allow Class 10 students to Opt for an Easier Mathematics Paper

Gujarat Education Department has announced the introduction of two levels of Mathematics paper for the Gujarat Board class 10 students from the 2020-21 academic session. The Gujarat Board class 10 students appearing for the GSEB board exams in 2022 will have an option to choose Mathematics – Basic or Mathematics – Standard based on their academic preference in the future.

Both papers to have the same curriculum

However, choosing Mathematics Basic or Standard level will not have any impact on the curriculum of class 10 Mathematics as all the students irrespective of the level they choose will be studying the same topics and chapters in schools during the academic session.

As per Gujarat Board, the Class 10 students will be required to study the same textbook and syllabus, and based on their interest and understanding of the subject the students will be able to opt for one of the papers at the time of filling the Class 10 board examination forms.

The board decided to introduce two mathematics papers according to the CBSE which also introduced the same in order to reduce stress levels among students appearing for the board exams.

Maths Standard compulsory for Science stream students

According to reports, out of the two mathematics papers, the Mathematics standard paper will be the same as the existing one while the second Mathematics Basics will be slightly easier for the students. Board officials have stated that the students will be given a question paper in the class 10 exams based on their choice and while the basic level of questions will be asked in the basic question paper, the standard mathematics paper will have a higher level of the difficulty level of questions. Both the formats will also have separate marks, weightage for chapters, marks allotted, etc.

The students opting for Mathematics Standard will be able to secure admissions in the Science stream in class 11 and in General Stream while those opting for the Mathematics basic option but wish to take admissions in the science stream will be required to appear for the Mathematics standard level exams in the remedial exams which will be conducted in July.
